13 Oct 2008 |Singer warns Richmond students about bad choices

R&B singer Trey Songz hit the right note with about 250 Richmond high school students today, delivering a message of self-control as part of a panel discussion on nonviolence.

You have to learn to walk away from trouble, the Petersburg native told students from each of the city's eight high school programs. He said students should consider one thing -- "five minutes of your life that could turn into the rest of your life" -- before doing anything rash.

The students were gathered at Thomas Jefferson High School to hear Songz, gangster-turned-philanthropist Noonie Ward, Commonwealth's Attorney Michael N. Herring and Richmond police Capt. John Venuti, among others, talk about the importance of living right.

"You make bad choices, they stay with you for life," said Ward, a one-time member of a Chicago street gang who now works with Songz on a program called Songz for Peace, which uses music to promote nonviolence to youth.

"It doesn't matter if your parents went to Harvard; if you make the wrong choice, that's you," he said.

ABOUT SONGZ FOR PEACE: Songz for Peace is a campaign formed in 2008 by Atlantic Recording artist Trey Songz & Philanthropist Noonie Ward as an attempt to save our children one city a time. Being that Chicago is like a second home to the R&B sensation, he decided to join forces with Chicago native, Noonie Ward to aid in the fight against violence in the city. After much success with the first event, Trey Songz and Noonie are now taking Songz for Peace on the road to empower youth in other US markets.

ABOUT TREY SONGZ: In 2005, a young man with a voice far beyond his years stepped onto the scene before the world was equipped for one of his kind. With the release of "Trey Day" his sophomore release on Atlantic Records last fall, it is clear that Trey Songz is here for the long run. After much success for the single, "Can't Help But Wait," Trey received his first BET Award nomination in 2008.

ABOUT NOONIE WARD: Noonie is a former high-ranking member of the Gangster Disciples, reported to be the largest criminal organization in the United States. Now one of Chicago's entrepreneurial and philanthropic elite, Noonie's organizational genius, once used for terror across the Mid-West, is now focused on positive, productive business and community development projects. Noonie's inspirational story was featured as the Spring 2005 cover for F.E.D.S magazine.

ABOUT PEATC:For thirty years, PEATC has been a statewide resource for children with disabilities, their families and the schools they attend. PEATC is also home to Virginia's Parent Information Resource Center [PIRC] for all Virginia families.Academic achievement is a prime focus.  The Virginia Icon, a PEATC fundraiser, showcases Virginia's young vocal talents.

23 Sep 2008 |R&B Singer, Joe, on Trey Songz & Mario.

Singersroom.com recently sat down with R&B singer, Joe. He has a song on an unpcoming release which features both, Trey Songz & Mario. Read below, an excerpt, on what he had to say about both talents.

Singersroom: We’re looking forward to your album; there is one track on “Joe Thomas, New Man” that has been garnering a lot of attention called “We Need To Roll” with Trey Songz and Mario. How did that come about, did you hand pick those two singers and if so why?

Joe: I’m fans of both Trey and Mario. Both of their careers are headed in a very bright direction. I was excited to hear that they wanted to be a part of this project after speaking at the BET Awards. They wanted to get in on the project early and my schedule was open to get it done quick so we just got it in.

It’s one of those exciting things that people can look for but it’s not going to be on this album, I want to clear that up; it will be coming out on a later release, an album with a bunch of features with P. Diddy, Nas, The Game and Busta Rhymes.

11 Sep 2008 |Trey Songz Denies Alleged Steroid Use, Plus Rumored Wedding

Trey Songz hit back at reports alleging that steroids were responsible for his new look, admist rumors of an engagement and wedding.

In a video posted recently, Songz and producer Troy Taylor dismiss rumors that steroids were responsible for Songz' new look. Mentioning his training schedule and time in the gym Songz says "I lost like six pounds" since his last visit.

Critics had linked the singer's more defined look to steroids over the last few weeks following previously accussed stars LL Cool J, Timbaland and Busta Rhymes.

In related news,  the "Missin' You" singer has yet to confirm rumors of his engagement to an Ethiopian dancer who he met on tour.  In an interview with Sister 2 Sister Magazine Songz discusses how he met the dancer who is rumored to be touring with Chris Brown.

Well, I’ll say he (Omarion) introduced us. From there, we went on that first tour together. I was on the Holiday Jam Scream Tour. She was on it too. We ain’t never really get a chance to kick it. She’d see me and she’d just kind of brush me off, but I’d be trying to holler at her. She’d see me with all different kinds of chicks and she wasn’t really feeling that." Rumors of Songz' engagement have been a hot topic on the internet over the last few weeks, there has been no official statement from the singer other than admitting that are dating.

Songz is busy at work on his new album "Ready" which is slated to drop later this year.
